What is SAP Material Types?

Material Types in SAP MM are classification of Materials and Materials Category. Contents with similar basic characteristics are grouped together and assigned to a content type this content type we called material type. material type allows you to manage different materials in a uniform manner according to the needs of your company.

Whenever you create a material master record you must need to assign material type to material for creation. The material type defines the specific characteristics of the material and control the important functions of its. For example, material type is the important factor to define the screen sequence and field selection in a material master record.

How to Create Material Types in SAP MM ?

New Material type or custom material type name will be start with Z or Y.

To Create material types in SAP we will follow the below mention steps:

STEP #1. Enter the Transaction code OMS2 in command box.

STEP #2. Change View Material Types overview screen will open like showing in below picture.

STEP #3. In Change View Material Types overview screen select standard material type according to which type of Material type you want to create and the click on copy button like showing in below picture.

STEP #4. Now Change View Material types detail of selection set screen will open here your have to fill all the required entries and click on Save button your material type will created.
